Who doesn’t need positive energy during these trying times?
Positive Energy (PE) is Hip-Hop music formulated with creativity and authenticity; characterized by a signature sound that is a departure from the mainstream, melodic compositions and cohesive concepts nourish listeners. PE includes the lyrical team of Prophecy and DUB Colossus —proponents of what they call “Primordial Hip-Hop!” The duo spit lyrics that enlighten, provokes thought, and uplifts. Developed for a mature audience with a pallet for musical brilliance, lyrical mastery, and an appreciation for Hip Hop with meaning. PE fills the void for those that seek substance, good music, and concepts that speak to the human condition.
Hailing from the cradle of Hip-Hop culture —NYC, these two MC’s stood as the front men for the critically acclaimed live Hip-Hop band “Primordial Source.” Throughout the 90’s they frequented the underground indy band circuit, ripping up renown stages like Tramps, Wetlands, and Irving Plaza. They opened for a number popular artists during a time when performing hip-hop with a live band was a rarity. In 1995, Primordial was briefly signed to RCA/BMG’s Groovetown Records and released a self-titled EP. In 1996, the band independently released their second EP, which was titled, “Polarity.” In 1999, the group disbanded prior to releasing their full length album —“For the Record.”
Upon entering the new millennium, P and DUB continued on their musical trajectory and formed Positive Energy. In 2006, they released their first project “Positive Energy feat. Prophecy and DUB Colossus.” In 2009, the tandem returned with“Thru Rebel Eyes.” Positive Energy’s third installment titled “Intellectual Property,” was released in 2012.
In 2018, the duo released their fourth installment —“ Light Bearers!” Elevated lyrics and rich musical tapestries project an illuminated path out of the darkness that shrouds today’s Hip Hop music and culture. Intended for grown folks and younger hip-hop heads, PE’s conscious bars speak truth, inspiration, and fosters hope during these volatile times. As mumble rappers saturate mainstream media speaking nonsensicalities from a simulated trap, this is an album for listeners who have an appreciation for hip hop music as an art form.
If you expect more from toady’s hip hop, then charge your being with music that transcends the conventional, is sonically esthetic, and galvanizes the spirit with positive energy.
